It made its maiden flight on May 18, 1951 and produced a total of 107 aircraft, all of which have now been retired.On October 11, 1956, a "Warrior" B Mk.1 (aircraft number WZ366) from the 49th Squadron dropped a 3000 ton equivalent "Blue Danube" nuclear bomb over the Maralinga Range in Australia. The bomb successfully detonated at an altitude of about 230 meters, marking the first successful airdrop test of British nuclear weapons and earning the "Warrior" a place in history.In March of the following year, four "Warriors" from the 49th Squadron were sent to Christmas Island in the Pacific to participate in the "Hook Operation" to test hydrogen bombs. On May 15th, XD818 dropped Britain's first airdropped hydrogen bomb, "Little Green Granite," over Christmas Island. The test was only partially successful, and although the hydrogen bomb successfully detonated, its yield was only one-third of the originally expected value.
