Description: For sale is a very cool 1809 Classic Head Half Cent. The Classic Head Half Cent was minted between 1809 to 1836, and not many survived because they were so heavily circulated and a great majority were melted down for the copper in preceding wars. For being 214 years old there's no telling how many are left out there! There were a few varieties of the 1809, and this one is the "9 over inverted 9" variety. That refers to the "9" in the date being stamped over an upside down "9".As you can see from the pics the coin is in really nice shape, and it would come in at a nice VF grade, which is very tough and high grade to find these coins in. The date is nice and bold and the details in the curls in the bust's hair are sharp. The lettering is faded on both sides, but some of it is visible on the reverse. All details on the coin are sharp, but the coins biggest flaw is it does have some minor environmental exposure, mostly to the reverse, but that is very common with pure copper coins this old. I did reduce the price of the coin nicely due to the exposure otherwise it would be priced MUCH higher.This is an amazing find for any rare coin collection out there--and a coin that was minted just 10 years after George Washington's death!
