Description: These striking comic postcard with its black background are titled in French "Peche" or "Fishing" and "Cyclisme" or "Cycling". They are signed Fernel for Frederic Fernel, an illustrator, painter and caricaturist and poster artist born Frederic Cerkel in Belgium, who spent most of his life in France. I've seen several different birth and death dates. He was born in 1865 or 1872 and lived until 1933 or 34.The cards state in French that the back can only be used for the address. Divided back postcards were introduced in France in 1905. Both cards have a torn off corner and some edgewear, but are still delightful images. See my other listing for more Fernel postcards.
