Description: This is is a *SCARCE* 1939 First 1st edition thus copy of The Thibault’s by Nobel Prize in Literature winner and renowned French author Roger Martin Du Gard. This is his most famous work and the title that set him on the path to receiving the Nobel Prize. The Thibaults follows the fortunes of two brothers, Antoine and Jacques Thibault, from their upbringing in a prosperous Catholic bourgeois family to the end of the World War I. Condition: Good+ to Very Good - Book is strongly bound with a square spine, tight text block and firm hinges and joints. There is some fading and rubbing to the grey boards, water dampening stains on front board, spine is sun-darkened, corners are sharp, surprisingly light rubbing to the spine tips. Endpapers show light to moderate foxing. Both the front fly leaf and front paste down have a prior owner’s name in ink. throughout text, heaviest (as usual) on the endpapers and first and last few signed of the text. Interior has some pencil writing on occasion, some torn and wrinkled pages. Text itself is clean and unmarked. Last page and back endpapers have bent corners. Be sure to look at the pictures as they are an important part of the description.
