Description: ORIGINAL ”METRO-GOLDWYN MAYER / LOEWS” LOGO PHOTO An original 8 x 10” photo used to promote METRO-GOLDWYN MAYER / LOEWS pictures in the 1940s. Movie theater magnate Marcus Loew bought Metro Pictures Corporation in 1919 for a steady supply of films for his large Loew’s Theatres chain. With Loew’s lackluster assortment of Metro films, Loew purchased Goldwyn Pictures in 1924 to improve the quality. However, these purchases created a need for someone to oversee his new Hollywood operations, since longtime assistant Nicholas Schenck was needed in New York headquarters to oversee the 150 theaters. Approached by Louis B. Mayer, Loew addressed the situation by buying Louis B. Mayer Pictures on April 17, 1924. Mayer and Irving Thalberg headed up the newly formed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Very Fine. NO RESERVE!!! GOOD LUCK! The preferred method of shipping is by PRIORITY MAIL for domestic addresses. FIRST CLASS (and Media mail for books and films) will be added as an option where possible. Items under 4 lbs. can be shipped by FIRST CLASS international. PRIORITY MAIL international is necessary if the item is to be insured. Insurance can be added to a new invoice if requested.
