Description: 1955 JAGUAR - original XK140 sales brochure - Vintage 1955 Jaguar sales brochure with write-ups and specs for the XK140 Roadster, XK140 Convertible, XK140 Hardtop, and Mark VII Saloon models. The Jaguar XK140 was a British sports car manufactured for only three model years, introduced in late 1954 and sold as a 1955 model, and was discontinued in 1957. Exterior features that distinguished it from its successor, the XK120 included more substantial front & rear bumpers, and flashing turn signals above the front bumper. The interior was made more comfortable for taller drivers by moving the engine, firewall and dash forward to give 3 inches more legroom. Two 6-volt batteries, one in each front wing were fitted to the Fixed Head Coupe, but Drop Heads and the Open Two Seater had a single 12-volt battery installed in the front wing on the passenger side. In 1956 the XK140 became the first Jaguar sports car to be offered with automatic transmission. As with the XK120, wire wheels and dual exhausts were options, with most XK140s imported into the United States having the optional wheels. A stock XK-140 SE could achieve a top speed of 120–125 mph. The cover of this original 1955 10" x 7" brochure has very slight age discoloration, while the interior pages are bright and in great condition (see photos). An unobtrusive scuff is evident on the back cover, and light handling marks do not detract from page turning or legibility. Staples are in good shape with faint signs of rust on the lower one. The interior pages are clear and in good readable condition in this brochure advertising the inaugural year of one of Jaguar's most iconic automobiles. It would make an excellent addition to any automobile, British car, Jaguar, or 1950's sports car memorabilia collection. Shipment to continental United States addresses only.
