This was the special season were Griffey saved the team. The team made it to the post season and Griffey's mad dash for home against the Yankees has gone down in history as "The Double" (roped by Edgar Martinez), and Manager Lou Piniella famously said it was "the hit, the run, the game, the series and the season that saved baseball in Seattle." Plans for Safeco Field were approved soon after, and the Mariners were no longer in jeopardy of relocation. It even spawned a Nintendo game called "Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run."
