Description: A Dangerous Crossing and What Happened on the Other Side; and Seven Lean YearsBy Emma Shepard HillDenver: Bradford-Robinson Printing, 1924. Second Edition. 5 5/8 x 7 ½ inches. 206 pp. Has black and white illustrations and photographs, including a photo of the author and of her father. Green cloth hardcover with gold lettering to front cover, illustrated end papers. In good condition, clean with solid binding, which is visible at a couple of spots in the book. One illustration is a little loose. This book is in three parts. The first part is the author’s account of when she was 13 in 1864 and traveled with her family on the "dangerous crossing” across the plains via wagon train to Colorado, after her father was to become superintendent of a gold mine. The second part of the book, told through letters to her friend back East, is of their life there, in Empire and Georgetown, Colorado. And the third part, interestingly told in third person, is of the first several years of her marriage, called “Seven Lean Years.” This is a scarce title, extremely readable and interesting, and with good historic information.
