Description: Hunter-Trader-Trapper Co., Columbus OH, Second Edition 1926. (First Edition was 1925), Cloth. 214 pages plus 6 pgs of ads. Illustrated with 46 photos. Covers lightly soiled. Brinstool has written a most balanced history of a very confusing and often incorrectly reported battle. He himself met with, photographed and recorded the exact words of people who were actually there, from their own perspective. Brinstool, in his Preface (see image), shows his balanced perception of how Custer found himself in this position, and how U.S. policy was largely responsible for creating the animosity that existed. This book rings true. While the cover shows some stains, the interior of the book is in marvelous condition: pages clean, not faded. Binding intact, no separations. While the book went directly from my father's library to me, sadly now there is no relative who is interested. Many later editions were produced: Univ. of Nebraska Press, Stackpole books, et al., all printed well after 1925. If you want to just read the book, any of those will do.. If you want to hold history in your hand, this is your book. I've taken several images, not only to show the condition of the book as best as possible, but also to show samples of Brinstool's position on how his reporting differs from others contemporary at that time, and his appreciation of those who took part. I found the book honest, and fascinating. In researching how to post this book, I looked at several ads who had included "signed by author", or "inscribed". So is this one. However, in looking at the other ads that actually showed the signature page, the signatures are exactly the same. No doubt the signature is his, but in my opinion this is the way the page was printed (his portrait with his signature) and most likely not individually signed by the author.
