Description: Up for sale is a single, all-original Altec Model 15 two-way crossover, dated February 25, 1977. This crossover is in completely original condition and remains very clean with no apparent damage. I personally tested it, using it in a mono system for a while, and it sounded great. The Model 15 crossover has a relatively high cutoff point, so be sure to study your specifications and needs before purchasing. This unit should fit perfectly into any stock Model 15 speaker, provided you have the original mounting screws. While this listing does not include those screws, it does include everything else you see in the pictures. The output wires are carefully marked for easy hookup, and it also includes its original rear mounting plate, which is often missing. The condition of the crossover is good overall. There is some minor oxidation on the rear of the Alps controls, but they still feel and work smoothly. Until they are used a few times, you may hear a bit of noise from dirt, this clears out quickly with use or spray cleaner... When I tested it, the sound was clean and clear .. And the weighted feel of these (Alps?) controls is quite luxurious! These crossovers are known for their good sound quality, in part due to their unique non-polar electrolytics, which are appreciated by some audiophiles. The Model 15 itself was an interesting part of Altec’s smaller lineup from the 1970s, often overshadowed by the flagship Model 19 system, but impressive nonetheless. This system originally featured an Altec 32 horn, a descendant of a Western Electric design, which performed well in this setup. The crossover likely played a significant role, as Altec put considerable thought into creating a smaller system that could keep up with the evolving audio trends of the 1970s. That era was a fascinating time for companies like Altec and JBL as they competed in the “Watt Wars” of the 1970s and adapted their classic designs, many of which had roots in Western Electric and the 1940s.
