Description: For sale is a superb potpourri frill vase made by Derby in 1760 . The vase is decorated with applied flowers, two faces, reticulated areas around the top surrounded by applied flowers and a large bird as the finial of the lid. There are some butterflies around the masks that were painted by the artist known as the moth and bird painter. The lid also has some applied flowers and reticulated areas. These early examples of Derby definitely show a heavy influence from the top German maker on their designs. The vase is in amazing condition considering her age! First of all it still has the original lid which isn't exactly common :) There is certainly some damage to the applied flowers though it is not bad at all. A small firing crack to the top rim, the beak of the bird is chipped as are his wing tips and end of the tail. Light crazing around the foot. All in all a thrilling example and I was more than happy to have found it! The vase is unmarked underneath but that's common as well but does have light patch marks. There is a black number 35 likely from another collector or museum. The Piece is just about 12 inches tall, 7.25 inches wide and 6.25 inches deep. The pics are not as good as usual because I am still learning the ins and outs of my new camera which hasn't been much fun.
