Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE AR-SA MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 19226 American Hooked Rug Runner 3'2" x 18'9" C. 1930 The earliest American hooked rugs were made in New England, but this example was probably woven in the Mid-West. The arrangement of colourfully striped squares in alternating vertical and horizontal positions gives an allover basket weave effect with no two squares absolutely identical, although a visual integrity and unity is preserved. The pile elements are all narrow fabric strips in shades of cream, blue, green, yellow. As can be seen, the work is not uniform, but proceeds in at least four panels.
