One of them has acquired an astonishing strength in the last fortnight, although his paralysis has been going on for eight years” (April 7, 1778) and “The experiments that I recently announced in public papers, on the increase of the electric fluid, in Machines exposed to the Sun, have excited a certain sensation among physicists. I repeated these new Experiences yesterday and the day before, in the presence of several people and Electric Doctors, and I obtained the same effects” (August 6, 1778).
