The husband wears a uniform (introduced in May of 1822 as we said above) of a "chef de bataillon" of the line infantry of the French Royal Army. His rose collar was a distinctive of one of eight regiments in total: nos. 13-16 and nos. 45-48. We checked all officer lists of these eight regiments from all the years of the aforementioned period and found only three "chefs de bataillon", who were in possession of only (!) the Chevalier Cross of St. Louis (each of them was awarded in the late 1810s). Their names were: - chef de bataillon of the 13th Regiment, Huguet Annet de Bonniol (1774-1848). He left the active service in 1823, at the age of 49 years. Since 1802 he was married to Marie Jeanne Imbert de Tremiolles (1786-1876). In 1823 she was 37 years old. - chef de bataillon of the 45th Regiment, Pierre André Marie de Gyves, comte de Greuzy (1769-1837). In 1822 (new uniform!) he was already 53 years old. He retreated from the service in 1833, at some point being awarded the Chevalier Cross of the Legion of Honor (in any case not earlier than 1827!). Since 1806 he was married to Constance de Ponteves, which means that in 1822 she was at least 32 (if not older). - chef de bataillon of the 45th Regiment, Blaise Heraud (1775-1852). Oops! He was promoted to this rank on February 12, 1823 at the age of 48. A perfect reason to order this double portrait, showing him with new epaulettes of a senior officer! We are sure that this officer is our man. His wife (since 1816) was Mary Corney (1790-1867). In 1823 she was 33 years old. 48 and 33 - full accordance with the visual ages of both our sitters! In 1824 or 1825 he was also awarded the Chevalier Cross of the Legion of Honor. But this happened already after our miniature was made.
