CROSLEY FIELD - JUNE 7, 1967

Description: The matchup on this particular day was future Hall of Famer Juan Marichal and 19 year old rookie sensation Gary Nolan who had recently been brought up from triple A. Nolan would go on to strike out 15 Giants in a losing cause, but what was so memorable and remarkable about this outing is the fact that he was able to fan Willie Mays 4 times. In his first at-bat he caught Mays looking, in the 4th, 6th and eight Willie went down swinging. This was something Mays had never experienced before and was later quoted as saying "The kid was good". Nolan would go on to spend 9 years of his 10-year career with Cincinnati with a lifetime record of 110 - 70. In addition, he was a member of the Reds` "Big Red Machine" when they won back-2-back World Championships in `75-76. He also started and pithed 6 2/3 strong innings in the 4th game of the 1976 World series, thus completing the sweep and recording his first WS victory. As for the ball please make note that it is a Warren Giles baseball which are becoming scarce and hard to come by. Giles was president of the National League from 1951 - 69, which was the same era as that of Willie Mays which make the items truly vintage. Other than the fact that Mr. Nolan forgot to add the letter "r" to the word struck, the ball has very little soiling, no scuff marks with very clear text, exceptional condition for its age. This offering which is truly vintage, is for both the helmet and ball. Gary Nolan was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1983. Whether it`s for giving or getting it would make a great gift idea for that Reds diehard. We suggest you show this one to Dad or Grandpa. Comes from a pet/smoke free environment along with proof of authenticity. Will ship to all 50 states and Puerto Rico only. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know. Thank you for viewing, have a nice day and stay safe.
