Co. Aka "Frink Building" on Jackson Street in Seattle's Historic District was built by John M. Frink in 1891. Washington Shoe Co was founded by a German Shoemaker by the name of T.J. Thorsen on January 24,1891. By 1901, Washington Shoe Mfg Co was the primary occupants of the building and remained there for more than eight decades ! This was Seattle's first shoe company. The four story wholesale warehouse was designed by architects Boone & Willcox. The two additional floors were added during an expansion in 1912. The difference in the color bricks on the new addition is quite noticeable. Back in the early days, the Washington Shoe Co. specialized in boots for loggers and miners that can withstand the harsh weather of the Alaskan wilderness. By 1936 the Building was no longer used for manufacturing and in 2001 the company moved its operation to Kent, Washington. The building has changed owners since than but the name of the building remained the same. The Washington Shoe Mfg Co. is owned and operated by four generations of the Moehring Family. The company just celebrated its 127 anniversary in 2018 ! Making Washington Shoe Company the second oldest family owned and operated business in the State of Washington !
