Description: Cazenovia is a town in Madison County, New York with a village, also named Cazenovia. The Town was established in 1793 by the Towns of Whitestown and Paris before the creation of Madison County. Subsequently other towns in the county were formed from partitions of its territory. It was founded by John Lincklaen, an agent of the Holland Land Company, and was named after Thesophilus Cazenove, Lincklaens boss. The village of Cazenovia is located southeast of the lake. The lake resides in a valley created by sub-glacial runoff during the recession of North American continental glaciers at the end of the last glacial period. It is roughly 3.9 miles long and ½ mile wide and drained from its southeast corner by Chittenango Creek, which then flows north over Chittenango Falls and eventually into Oneida Lakes south shore in Bridgeport. I could not get any information on the roadway on the card or the gorge that is mentioned. It could be US 20, which was state 5 first. The card was published by “H.V. Randall of Cazenovia” and printed by the “Albertype Co.”. It is post marked 1931 and is in good condition with minor wear and a clean, clear image of an old car on the old road. The reverse is clean and addressed to Tarrytown New York. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated. If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment......
