Description: This is a pair of small (7" x 10") watercolors depicting haystacks in a field by American painter Ralph L. Witherow, both signed and dated 1927. Witherow was born in the Philadelphia area (c.1890's) and was trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore as a medical illustrator. He served in the U.S. military during World War I in France illustrating surgeries performed on wounded troops. Upon his return, his illustrations appeared in many medical journals and articles.
