This tiny Damascene-style letter opener is an exquisite mid-century collectible! HOTEL HISTORY - A palace for Spanish Nobility & Hollywood Legends: Paseo de la Castellana was born in 1800. The location was chosen by the Spanish nobility to build their urban palaces. The hotel was originally the Palace of the Dukedom of Aliaga, designed by architect Eugenio Jiménez Correa. The years of splendor of the Spanish nobility came to an end in the 1950s, a period in which the great Spanish families left the luscious palaces they had built on the Paseo de la Castellana. In 1953, the Castellana Hilton opened - The first international hotel in Spain at number 49 of the exclusive Paseo de la Castellana. The Castellana Hilton was inaugurated with an unforgettable party that lasted three days and three nights. The opening of the hotel transformed the Spanish capital into a Hollywood branch: Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Gary Cooper, Bette Davis and Sophia Loren, among other artists, spent long periods in Madrid filming the big productions of the time. Please see the sword photos for details and condition – thanks!
