Description: Vinings, located across the river from Atlanta, Georgia, is a very old community with a unique history. Called Crossroads at first, Vinings is where Hardy Pace operated a ferry across the Chattahoochee River and where the Western & Atlantic Railroad headed north on its way to Chattanooga. The area was once rich farmland dotted with churches and stores. It evolved into a summer community where Atlantans traveled to find relief from the heat and later became a small commercial community of antique stores and eateries served by excursion buses. Vinings, home to some of best restaurants and finest homes in the area, is part of Cobb County's prosperous ""Platinum Triangle"" of important commercial development just up the interstate from Atlanta. Images of America Vinings GA Across River Atlanta Crossroads Antiques PB Description Images of America Vinings Georgia Ferry Across Chattahoochee River Summer Community Atlanta By Susan Kendall Beaver NEW PB Vinings, located across the river from Atlanta, Georgia, is a very old community with a unique history. Called Crossroads at first, Vinings is where Hardy Pace operated a ferry that allowed people to cross the Chattahoochee River and where the Western & Atlantic Railroad headed north on its way to Chattanooga. The area, where the bluffs run down to the river, was once rich farmland dotted with churches and stores. Susan Kendall-Beaver has been the manager of the Vinings Library for 15 years. Through this work, she has met many residents of the community. The Vinings Historic Preservation Society, other historical associations, and current and former residents have made photographs and historical items available for inclusion in this book; their generosity allows Vinings to come alive again. The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all. This new softcover book, copyright 2012, is in excellent condition.
