Their most well-known symbol of protection is the Italian Horn, which dates back to ancient Roman times, and is still widely used today. The horns ward off the evil eye (Malocchio) of devilish envy. By invoking bull-like strength against such evils, the horns bring good luck and good fortune, similar to "touch wood" or "knock wood". Often worn on jewelry, it is also common to see the charm hanging inside a car for protection. Some historians believe it also derives from “cornucopia” -- goat horns filled with gold, precious stones, and products of the earth as symbols of abundance and success, also called the Horn of Plenty. THE EVIL EYE: Malocchio is the curse that envious people could silently wish upon you. It is not uncommon to see Italians immediately making a horn sign with their hand to ward off the Malocchio when someone pays a compliment or wishes you something wonderful. Italian superstitions believe that if someone staring or gazing at you with jealousy or envy it gives you Malocchio. The iconic Evil Eye is likewise known in many cultures as an emblem of strength and protection from harmful energy. You can prolong the finish of your jewelry as well as the vibrancy of your gemstones by following these simple tips:> DO NOT GET YOUR BRACELET WET ~ Keep your jewelry away from moisture. It is best to remove your bracelet before washing your hands, showering, exercising and swimming since contact with moisture can break down the elastic, ruin finishes and tarnish metals and charms. > AVOID CONTACT WITH CHEMICALS ~ Perfume, soap, moisturizer, lotion, hand sanitizer or other chemicals can weaken the elastic, harm natural crystals and result in the discoloration and peeling of beads and gemstones. Be careful.> AVOID HEAT EXPOSURE ~ Leaving your bracelet in sunlight or exposed to heat for an extended period of time may lead to elastic erosion and can cause beads and metal to discolor. Remove your bracelet while exercising.> ROLL IT ON AND OFF ~ Do not over-stretch your bracelet! It has been made with pre-stretched elastic. Over-stretching it beyond its capacity will cause it to break. To keep from overly stretching it to put it on and off, slide your fingers into the bracelet first, then gently roll the beads over your knuckles and then onto your wrist.
