Katherine Dunham,Her Dancers, Singers, Musicians, 1949 1st ed book,Black history

Description: This awesome book illustrates the impact Katherine Dunham had on American dance and theater. Published in 1949, the 78-page hardcover , "Katherine Dunham and her Dancers, Singers and Musicians," displays photos of Dunham's black dancers in performances, as well as rehearsals. Known as "The Queen Mother of Dance," Dunham broke the glass floor, not only as a black dancer, running her own dance company, but also as activist, feminist, educator, and advocator for equal rights. She received 10 honorary doctorates and many awards, including the Presidential Medal of Arts and The NAACPLifetime Achievement Award. This undated hardcover was edited by Richard Buckle and photographed by Roger Wood (and others). It was published by Ballet Publications Ltd, London. Text in both English and French. The interior of this book is clean, bright and unmarked. Lacking jacket, the cover is a bit smudged, and also sunned but the gold titled spine is legible. Katherine Dunham opened many formerly-closed doors for black singers and musicians. This is a fairly rare book detailing (thru vintage photos) the lasting impact Dunham had on black culture and entertainment.in America. The book will be sent, carefully packed, with tracking.
