Description: Cool leather fine binding of this 1902 story of “how St Francis of Assisi wooed and won my Lady Poverty, the most difficult of all brides.” It was written sometime in the thirteenth century (most likely in 1227) by an unknown Franciscan. Reprinted here by John Murray (UK) and Tennant and Ward (US). Designed in an Arts & Crafts style, the black and red ink printed book is in beautiful shape. Great Arts & Crafts inspired cover, with leather inlays, blinds-tamped designs on the spine, and all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. A pencilled note inside from 1922 notes that the book's design was by Hallam Murray, son of John Murray IV (the publisher). Book is in very good + condition, binding still excellent, pages clean and clear. A treasure.
