Description: After more than 60 years of collecting coins, it is time to move my collections along to new homes. I have more ancient coins than I have time left to work to research, so it is time to move them along to new collectors to enjoy the challenge. Here is Lot # 141 and based on their size and designs, these bronze Roman coins are from about 269-395 AD. The coins in the photos are the coins you will receive. These are in fair to good condition and have some interesting detail remaining that shows some of the obverse bust and/or some of the reverse design. In this lot, there are three classic reverse designs - the "FEL TEMP REPARATIO" issue showing a soldier spearing a fallen horseman, the second is a "VOT XX MVLT" design which was used by the Emperor to commemorate the anniversary of their reign and prayers for many more years. The third design is a Roman god or the emperor standing left. After being in the ground for all those years, the vast majority of ancient coins that are discovered are not museum pieces but are still quite interesting and have historical significance as they were used in everyday transactions by the people across the Roman Empire. These coins measure from 14-16 (AE-4) in diameter and I have worked to get a variety of designs and bust types in each mix. I placed the coins under a bright light to show the detail in the coins during photographing (no photoshop). These coins show a nice medium bronze patina when held in hand under sunlight. If only they could tell the stories of where they went and what they purchased! These make inexpensive additions to your collection, nice conversation pieces or great gifts to your budding historians, archaeologists, and coin collectors - some put these grade coins in jewelry. I have had several question as to which websites I use and recommend for research and while there are several good ones, I particularly like Wildwinds.com and numismatics.org and also forumancientcoins.com. I have been asked what could these type coins buy in Roman days? As inflation continued to increase during this time period, one of these was about equivalent in worth to one US dollar and two of these would buy enough bread for one day for a family or one liter of common wine so these type coins were used frequently for daily needs. I am offering these at a very good price so that my collection does not wind up in my “estate sale” and as everything needs to find a new home, am providing FREE SHIPPING to within the US. **AS I AM FINALLY DISTRIBUTING MY COINS FROM OVER 60 YEARS OF COLLECTING YOU WILL FIND COINS OF INTEREST AT MY SITE FOR BEGINNERS TO ADVANCED COLLECTORS – ALL PROVIDED WITH CONTEXT IN HISTORY.
