Als er kurz darauf in finanzielle Schwierigkeiten geriet, lieh er sich Geld von seinem Freund Henry Lomb. Bausch versprach, wenn das Geschäft wieder laufen würde, Lomb als gleichberechtigten Partner zu beteiligen. Wie wir heute wissen, lief das Geschäft bald wieder gut. In den ersten Jahren beglückte Bausch & Lomb den Markt mit eigenen Brillen aus Hartgummi. 1903 wurden die ersten Patente angemeldet. Präzisionsbrillengläser und optische Produkte. Bahnbrechend war die Entwicklung einer Sonnenbrille für das amerikanische Militär im 1. Weltkrieg. Bausch & Lomb war während der gesamten Firmengeschichte innovativ und erhielt in den 50er Jahren sogar einen «Oscar» für die «Cinema Scope Linse». Erwähnenswert ist auch die erste Kontaktlinse 1971, die ebenfalls von Bausch & Lomb stammt. BL waren stilbildend und sind heute noch begehrte Sammlerstücke. BAUSCH & LOMB: In 1853, the German emigrant Johann Jakob Bausch opened an optician's shop in Rochester, New York. When he ran into financial difficulties shortly afterwards, he borrowed money from his friend Henry Lomb. Bausch promised to take Lomb on as an equal partner when the business was up and running again. As we know today, the business was soon up and running again. In the early years, Bausch & Lomb delighted the market with its own spectacles made of hard rubber. The first patents were registered in 1903. Precision lenses and optical products. The development of sunglasses for the American military during the First World War was groundbreaking.
