These were wagons pulled on a light railway surface by a horse-drawn carriage. They were built in the early 19th century all over the world. In 1825, the Ceske Budejovice–Linz railway, the first public railway on the European continent, was built on Czech and Austrian territory. At the time, there were already several private horse-drawn carriages on the territory of the then Austrian monarchy - a horse-drawn railway for the transport of ore was built in Graz as early as 1810. Another important horse-drawn railway on the Czech territory was the Prague-Lanska railway, which opened in the Dejvice-Kladno section in 1830.The main idea was to reduce transport costs. Thanks to the reduction of rolling resistance (iron wheel - iron rail), the horse was able to pull a much heavier load than on classic horse carriage. The portrait of the man on the wagon depicts Frantisek Josef Gerstner (1756-1832), a mathematician, physicist and engineer who proposed the construction of a horse-drawn railway from Ceske Budejovice to Linz (Wiki).
