Description: Very RARE PLAQUE that is seldom available!!! Shown is a 1958 PLAQUE/SCULPTURE OF LOUIS PASTEUR BY RENOWNED AMERICAN SCULPTOR AND MEDICAL HISTORIAN, DORIS LEAVITT APPEL (1904-1995). This sculpture/plaque of Pasteur is one of the " original high relief panels " and is cast in synthetic epoxy stone rather than plaster . It is part of a 12 piece set encompassing her Medical History Series depicting 12 doctors from ancient times. The series had a limited edition of casts which were produced by the artist in her studio . Signed and trademarked by Ms. Appel. On the reverse lower right corner. Her family offered these pieces of the same dimension for $2,500.00. It is most unusual to see them on the secondary market. The plaque measures 13 1/2" tall X 10 1/4" wide X 3 1/4" deep (in high relief) and weighs 8 lbs.Two small eyelets are cast into the reverse, and a sturdy hanging wire is attached for wall mounting The condition is absolutely excellent.
