Description: Here is a decent vintage mid to late 1960's Rawlings Chuck Schilling model GJ 60 made in Japan for a Right-Hand thrower and thus fits on the left hand. Schilling was a right-handed thrower. The mitt is youth sized (but I can get my adult hand into it) measuring 10.5" long through the pocket. I could not find the mitt listed in any of the Rawlings catalog I have. This was one of the early Japan import gloves Rawlings put out and it is noted by the white (instead of the normal red) cloth patch on the back. Stamped on the front of the mitt is Spiral Top, "Deep Well" Pocket, Chuck Schilling (facsimile) Autograph, "The Finest in the Field!", GJ 60, Rawlings and Hinged Pad. On the back is stamped L Heel, Pat. No. 2,995,757 and 100% Nylon Sewn. There is a decent white original Rawlings patch sewn on the back that also says Japan on it. There is a very faint name written in ink at the top of the backside of the web and there is a very faint ink name written on the white cloth patch on the backstrap. The inside and outside stamping are all readable. Mitt has a decent white (yellowed a little) Rawlings cloth patch on the back showing wear. The interior and exterior leather is still soft on this mitt. Interior leather is soft and mostly smooth but with some light cracking at the bottom left heel area and some very light chafing at the bottom of the index finger. Note that the leather from these early Japan gloves is a bit thicker than you'll be used to from the normal USA gloves of the time. The lacing appears original and intact with some wear here and there. The leather piping is soft leather showing wear, mainly around the bottom of the backstrap in that area. Chuck Schilling played for the Boston Red Sox as a 2nd baseman from 1961-1965 (5 seasons). He was a RH thrower and RH hitter. He started off with a solid 1961 season and ended up in 3rd place for AL Rookie of the Year. He also was voted the Red Sox MVP for the 1961 season. In 1962, Schilling's sophomore season, he suffered a broken hand, causing him to miss over 40 games and impairing his batting ability for the rest of his career. He ended up as a utility player. I have other gloves and mitts on eBay now as auctions and/or Buy it Now, and I like to combine shipping whenever possible. If you win more than one glove on an auction, I'll send you an auction for the combined shipping amount. If you win Buy it Now items which require immediate payment, you'll have to pay the total shown and then when I now the total combined shipping cost, I'll refund you the difference back on the price through eBay.
