RARE Gorham ARABESQUE Sterling Silver Centerpiece & 15" Tray, Silverplate Insert

Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for an amazing RARE huge Gorham ARABESQUE Sterling Silver centerpiece bowl with matching Sterling Silver round tray and coordinating silver plated pierced decorated ferner insert for displaying flowers. This unusual patterb was designed in 1875. The insert fits into the centerpiece bowl correctly and appears to be original to this set. The bowl and tray have a wide elaborately chased and embossed Art Nouveau design featuring lovebirds, vines, fruit and three convex medallions with Phoenix heads (?) above with a pierced decorative band inside the outer border. The centerpiece bowl has a low pedestal with wide chased base decorated in the same Arabesque design. The tray sits on four round feet. Both pieces are marked with the Gorham trademark stamp and "Sterling" with Gorham date code for 1923 and "Design Pat'd". The bowl is marked with pattern number A12681 and the tray is marked with number A12682. The silverplated insert also has an elaborate design with an engraved reticulated/pierced top level and a pierced lower level. There is a large pineapple at the top functioning as the handle. The insert is marked "Silverplated Screen, 15". Centerpiece bowl sitting on the tray measures 4 1/2" high (at centerpiece rim) and about 7" high (with insert in place). The centerpiece bowl measures 14 1/2" in diameter and the tray measures 15" in diameter. The interior of the bowl is approximately 8 1/2" in diameter. The two Sterling Silver pieces weigh 2600 grams (not including the silverplated insert). This fabulous Gorham centerpiece, tray and insert were most likely commissioned as a special order by a wealthy family and is possibly one-of-a-kind. In over 40 years of buying and selling sterling silver, I have never seen a set more ornate and elaborately decorated than this one. You will definitely be proud to display and use this amazing set. The centerpiece bowl and tray are in very good to excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minimal signs of normal wear. The silverplated insert does have minor signs of wear with some slight dings and one small bent area on the underside of the exterior edge and some faint wear to the silverplating in the raised areas of the design that does not detract when the insert is being used.
