Description: I'm sure you're wondering why this Queen Cutlery Co knife is having such a steep price point, so here's the offering. My dads friend got this in a trade from an employee who worked at the Queen Cutlery Factory, the US one that permanently closed its doors in 2018. She was in the makings to be part of a limited run of 500 made in 1988 but never got serialized as there are two small natural imperfections on the bone scales, one on each side of the handle. The supervisor working that day, the executives running Queen, wanted perfection as this was a big (some say historic) step in their production of premium knives. This knife was around at the forefront of those premium quality years, was never meant to see the light of day, meant to be destroyed. As luck would have it our opportunistic employee didn't consider those flaws worthy of such an undeserving fate. He took a chance and walked out the door with this one still in his possession. I kind of have to agree. Not with how it was acquired but with his appreciation that natural material isn't always perfect but in the hands of a skilled artisan those small blemishes can be incorporated giving any piece standalone characteristics you wouldn't otherwise have, some more desirable than others. Not a view shared by his superiors in that day, but he was savvy enough to pull this one out of the grinder and give it a different end story. Squirreled away, this hidden 501st gem has remained in the shadows for 36 years. Now she's surfaced again. An unserialized limited edition commemorative #66 muskrat from 1988 that is available to be part of your collection, with a rescue origin story to boot. A piece of history from a legendary knife maker, a seldom seen once in a lifetime piece. The quality on this knife is spot on. Excellent snap, no wobble, no loose parts, factory edge. I would say Near Mint, but there are some surface marks. Not having traveled with the wood display case that was included with the official run might have something to do with that, but it has some tiny feather scratches from being handled/admired so Ill just say EXC++. Please refer to the pictures as they are just as much a part of the description. I found some literature on this knife, and it appears the number of knives officially sanctioned & serialized for that run checks out. There should be a serial number on the front side bolster where the clip point blade pivots from. This one is factory clean, not there. As I don't have any more details to offer, more facts to corroborate the validity of the story I'll let the details of the knife presented speak for itself. All signs point to the fact that it simply shouldn't exist. Seeing as shes a Unicorn, the price reflects this. No case or box comes with this one. Made in 1988, the site 'Queen Cutlery History' offers detailed information, photos & history directly related to the production of this knife. If you simply Google the phrase "queen cutlery history commemorative #66", the 1st two search results will quickly take you to the resources they have on this exact knife. The 1st link is a PDF upload of the ad that was originally used to market this knife. The 2nd link is a more comprehensive period article explaining projects and corporate decisions that influenced the production of this knife, also has a picture. The text from that ad is as follows ... "Only 500 will be manufactured Dyed dark brown bone handles (Jigging done by Queen 1st time ever) Serialized on bolster Original Schatt & Morgan shield (pinned to liner) Surface etching on master blades 4 when closed one 3 clip blade one 3 improved muskrat blade #66 Muskrat - (Commemorative) Many knives take their name from their uses. A muskrat knife is used by muskrat trappers to skin the animals. Queens's commemorative muskrat pattern #66 represents the 66 years of quality manufacturing Queen has enjoyed. The jigging on the bone handle was done by Queen Cutlery, the first time Queen has ever done it's own jigging. The improved muskrat blade is a rare blade which Queen has used only a few times over the past 66 years." If you Google the phrase "worthpoint vintage queen cutlery 66 jigged bone", the 1st result of that search is a completed sale, another example showing the serialized bolster. Ships Fully Insured.
