Description: About: Mid-Century tapestry designed by Rene Fumeron (1921-2003) and woven at Atelier Pinton Freres in Aubusson, France. Woven in wool, we believe it dates to the 1960s and is entitled “Picnic”. The artist's name is woven in the lower left corner and the monogram for the atelier is woven in the lower right corner. René Fumeron’s style was built on the principles of tapestry weaving reformed by Jean Lurçat. He was, however, distinguished among colleagues as the “Imagier” (image maker) of tapestry. His choice of subject matter including trees, branches, birds, complimented a strong sense of composition and admirable imagination. By using steep vertical lines, bold geometric forms and a strong palette, he was able to create transparency and harmony in his tapestry designs. This tapestry was originally owned by the White/Stockton Family in Cleveland, Ohio. Attributed to: Rene Fumeron (Designer) Dimensions: Height: 64 in (162.56 cm) Width: 44 in (111.76 cm) Depth: 1 in (2.54 cm) The tapestry also comes with a metal hanging rod. Style: Mid-Century Modern
