Description: Rhodochrosite, Sweet Home Mine, near Alma, Park County, Colorado (mined 1978) (ex Rich Kosnar collection) 3.8 x 3.0 x 1.6 cm Description: For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970s along with his father-in-law, Dave Bergman (Tresa Kosnar's dad) and the two of them managed to collect some excellent Rhodo specimens. This piece is from one of the last pockets that they opened before they were done at the mine. It is a sharp, translucent, red-pink color rhombohedron of Rhodochrosite associated with minor Fluorite and sulfides. A bit of edgewear, but complete for the most part, and this is authentic 1970s material, not the newer stuff. These specimens have sky-rocketed in value since the mine closed, and the specimens from this mine are certainly among the finest quality Rhodochrosite crystals in the world. Come with original labels. Actual rhodo is much redder than the photos.
