Description: About This Item: Up for sale is a complete set of The Encyclopedia Americana, 30 hardcover volumes, copyright 1949. Volume 30 is an index for the set. There are a variety of pictures, photos and maps, both color and B&W, throughout the set. Lots of interesting reading. Volume 27, for example, has large sections on both the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Also, there are sections for every country and U.S. State at the time. Overall, this set contains tons of information, and is an excellent reference for that period in history. Books are intact and in good to very good condition overall. All volumes have wear on the spine, mainly at top and bottom and somewhat along spine edges, all wording and images on spines are clear and intact, except for a couple of worn spots (see volumes 2, 9, 19, 29). Front & back covers have some light wear overall and particularly at corners (see pics for examples) as well as a few spots or stains on a couple volumes. Page edges are in very good condition with just a few light marks except volume 9, which has some staining (see also notes below). Other than specific items noted below, we found no writing, tears, or missing pages, though we did not check every page of every volume. There are some dog-eared page corners and creases across the 30 volume set. Volume 1 has 'Jill' written in light red on front page (see photo). Volume 2, inside front cover, is curling slightly at the spine (see photo). Volume 9 has a few issues. It seems it may have been separated from the rest of the set for some reason, as its condition is quite different from the other Volumes. There is some light crinkling and some staining, most likely from moisture, along the bottom, and some dog-ears and creased corners. There is also one page with the bottom half torn out. It is in the Education - Higher section. The last 3 pictures are of this volume. Please examine photos closely as they are part of the description, and ask any questions you may have.
