The Ottoman Endgame, by Sean McMeekin (2016, Trade Paperback)

Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The Ottoman Empire was an Islamic institution that ruled large parts of Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa from the end of the 13th century to 1923, i.e. over 600 years, based in Istanbul (aka Constantinople), the capital of modern day Turkey. Its demise after picking the wrong side as an ally during WWI was somewhat similar to the collapse of the Roman Empire many centuries before, in that it left a large political vacuum in the Middle East, into which other European nations rapidly inserted themselves. Eventually Kemal Attaturk arose from the ashes of the Empire’s government, and established a secular form of government in Turkey, which has survived (more or less) into the present day. This excellent book by historian Sean McMeekin looks at the reasons behind the spectacular collapse of the Ottomans, and how the subsequent division of the Empire’s possessions created issues that still plague us to the current day. This 2016 Trade Paperback is in very good condition, with no internal markings and nominal cover wear.
