The varnish will dry in about 1 hour. You can sand the first coat that will dry in one hour. The second coat will come out very smooth after light sanding. The smell of this varnish is somewhat strong. The smell did not bother me but my wife did not like the smell. You should use this varnish in a well ventalated area. The last of the 8 coats gave the cabinet a very rich look. I used this varnish on a Float Boat Cabinet that is subject to rain and sun. I hope the 8 coats of this varnish will protect this cabinet from the rain and sun. Robert Marko. Beyond happy with this varnish. Sanded my full cabin doors with 220 grit and cleaned with denatured alcohol. Applied 3 coats. 1st coat used the varnish straight up. The next 2 coats I added a bit of lacquer thinner that I had on hand and it was a thinner viscosity to work with. It came out way beyond my expectations. Very happy with this product. Will definitely buy again. Applied 4 coats to my new work bench, with very light sanding between each (300 grit). Smooth, glossy, and very hard after about a week. So nice I hesitate to use the bench top for actual work. Ahahahahahah!
