Description: Up for sale is a BRAND NEW, NEVER USED original Macintosh External Disk Drive, Model 0130 - the very first 3.5" model offered by Apple! The unit will be shipped in its original box. The original Macintosh External Disk Drive (M0130) was introduced with the Macintosh on January 24, 1984. However, it did not actually ship until May 4, 1984, sixty days after Apple had promised it to dealers. Bill Fernandez was the project manager who oversaw the design and production of the drive. The drive case was designed to match the Macintosh 128K/512K and includes the same 400-kilobyte drive (a Sony-made 3+1⁄2-inch single-sided mechanism) installed inside the Macintosh. This is impossible to find now nearly 40 years later in unused condition! Perfect for the collector to display and collect with an original 1984 Macintosh. Very rare to find new unused in the original matching Apple retail box with all original packaging. Includes the original insert card, both plastic bag covers that go over the drive and over the connector which is still factory sealed (as you can see from the photos, the original plastic wrap around the connecter cable is still sealed by way of a staple), and the original matching serial # retail box! As is to be expected of a unit that has sat unused for almost 40 years, it is almost certain that the original lubricant on the mechanism inside has dried up (a very common issue with drives of this era and age) and so the purchaser should expect that the drive will need to be opened and serviced to actually be used. This unit has had one owner so it has experienced minimal movement throughout the years. This is truly a gem of a find for the early Macintosh enthusiast out there. Unit will be shipped securely in a double boxed configuration to ensure maximum protection.
