Description: 1989 Redware Bud Vase Manganese Glazed With Ruffled Rim by Lester Breininger For your Breininger or Contemporary Redware Collection-BreiningerVase1 Details Description: A beautiful and very unusually shaped redware bud vase by Lester Brininger. The vase has a ball shaped bottom portion with a flat round base. The rounded portion ends with a shoulder and then extends upwards with a tall neck. The neck ends with a outwards flared ruffled rim. Just a great looking shape that is well proportioned and nicely glazed. The piece is glazed and having dark black splotches indicative of manganese glazing giving it a great look. The vase is also glazed on the inside but the bottom is unglazed and shows the typical color of unglazed redware. This is a beautiful folk art piece that is different and having very interesting colors. The bottom of the vase is marked as to the maker and the date the piece was made. It is also marked #3 suggesting that there were several of these made (most likely limited number) and that this one is number 3. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1989. Origin: Robesonia, Berks County Pennsylvania. Size: The vase is 3" diameter at the base and is ~6" high. The piece weighs ~11.5 ounces. Maker: Lester Breininger Marks: Marked "Breininger Pottery Pa 1989 #3" in block letters on bottom. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice piece and one of a limited number made so as such it is unusual and rare. Condition: Vase is in very good condition with no cracks, no repairs, or hairlines. The piece has signs of onset of glaze crazing in the form of a few lines of crackling in the glaze. In addition, the piece has a small chip at the edge of the ruffled rim, which we show in the last two photos. Please see photos for additional condition information. In Closing: This is a beautiful limited edition piece with a nice color and design, which seldom comes by. Sure to become a valuable collector item as time goes by. Made by an accomplished contemporary master potter with the Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, recently deceased. Definitely deserves a prominent spot in your contemporary redware collection.
