Description: This listing is more aimed for those who seek to preserve history almost lost to time. Now found within the folds of modern marketplaces, I attempt to find as much information about their service, along with photos, obituaries, any other information pertaining to the individual. My hope is the buyer of this item will take the due-diligence to keep the veteran's memory alive and preserve their documents and items as long as they can. May God bless those past and present who sacrifice so much for us, and may their sacrifice never be in vain. This is the Army Good Conduct Medal that is named to William Lloyd Winchester. (1921-2011) He was born on July 31 1921 in Waverly Missouri. He eventually moved to Los Angeles California, obtaining a high school education and one year of college while working at Lockheed Aircraft Co. He registered for the draft on February 16, 1942 and enlisted on September 18, 1942 with a "semiskilled occupation in building of aircraft". He found himself in the Signal Corps branch of the US Army, serving for two years before contracting a fever of unknown origin in November of 1944 in the line of duty. A year later he contracted another disease (which was withheld by the National Archives for legal reasons) to which he was treated with penicillin antibiotics and discharged at either a portable surgical, emergency evacuation, or Convalescent Hospital. The discharge has a note "Duty (includes AWOL)" William returned to California and lived there until his death on April 2, 2011. The medal is in good condition, has a circle marking from an adhesive tag. Shipped with USPS Ground Advantage. International Shipping and combined shipping is offered.
