Description: Up For Sale: -VEGA LABORATORIES PROTOTYPES (1953) Yes indeed, a beautiful pair of 3-Way Cerwin-Vega predecessors from 1953. Designed by Gene Czerwinsk in Hollywood, CA. Featuring absolutely beautiful continuous grain teak cabinets, and 3 way Jensen speakers dated to 1953. "The earliest known Vega Laboratory speakers were hand made and contained Jensen branded woofers, sealed mid-ranges and horn tweeters in a ported enclosure with a Vega Labs-built crossover. Earliest known models have no serial number or model numbers on the crossovers plates and these are believed to be production prototypes of what would become C-V's popular 12" 3-way speaker systems” (wiki). That being said, Gene Czerwinski often personally built custom speakers for friends and other customers. Previously owned by Jerry Immel, who lived in Hollywood and worked as a sound engineer on Gun Smoke, and also wrote the the song to Dallas, (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006139/). Sold in excellent condition. The speakers sound great! The teak cabinets are exceptional! A few condition notes: the lower grill clothes are experiencing a small amount of fraying towards the top of the lower half (see picture), which is an easy fix but not particularly distracting to the eye so I’ve left them alone. I had the woofers professionally re-conned two years ago. Ready to rock the house for another 70 years! I also replaced the mids at the same time with the same model of Jensen from the era. I have the original mids, so if you’d like them to be 100% original you’ve got that option. Message me for more information such as serial numbers, to see the insides, or to arrange a test drive.
