VICTORIAN 1870’S SILK BROCADE + BEADED VELVET BUSTLE RECEPTION DRESS

Description: DATING TO THE 1870’S TWO PIECE IN CONSTRUCTION FASHIONED OF A RICH STRIPED SILK SATIN FRENCH SILK JACQUARD THAT IS BROCADE IN RICH FEATHER PATTERNS RUNNING THROUGHOUT. THIS GOWN IS SOLD AS IT WAS ACQUIRED. GREAT FOR RESTORATION OR WONDERFUL FOR THE RICH FABRIC AND DETAILS. THE BODICE IS FULLY BONED ON THE INTERIOR WITH LABELED PETERSHAM. PADDING IS ON EACH SIDE OF THE REAR SHOULDER BLADE. THE SLEEVES HAVE A TURNED UP DETAIL ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SILK WITH THE BOTTOM SLEEVE IN A SILK VELVET THAT IS BEADED WITH SMALL SEQUINS AND METAL PAILLETTES. THE FRONT PANEL IS IN THE MATCHING VELVET WITH THE BEAD WORK HAVING RHINESTONE, PEARL, HAND BLOWN GLASS BEADS IN THE PATTERN WITH A HEART SHAPED DETAIL AT THE STOMACH. THE SKIRT HAS A MATCHING VELVET PANEL RUNNING DOWN THE CENTER WITH THE BEADED DETAIL RUNNING THROUGHOUT. EACH SIDE OF THE PANEL IS IN ROWS OF PLEAT PIPED SILK FAILLE WITH AN ECRU ACORN AND LEAF PATTERN LACE APPLIED BETWEEN WITH THE UNDER FABRIC IN A SILK SATIN. THE REAR FLOWS IN A TRAIN WITH ACCORDIAN PLEAT BUCKRAM AND LACE RUFFLES FULLY TRIMMING FROM FRONT TO REAR WITH THE UNDER SKIRT BACKED IN SILK. CONDITION: THIS GOWN IS SOLD AS IT WAS ACQUIRED, NOTE THE CONDITION. I PERSONALLY WOULD REMOVE THE BOTTOM SLEEVES, THE VELVET AND THE LACE AS I AM NOT EXACTLY CERTAIN WHAT IT ORIGINALLY LOOKED LIKE. THE VELVET IS A DEFINITE REPLACEMENT AND THE BELL LACE CUFFS ARE OF THE EDWARDIAN ERA. I WOULD REMOVE THE VELVET FRONT PANEL AS WELL. TRACES OF SILK ARE BENEATH THE EMBROIDERED DETAIL AND THERE ARE SOME ABSENCES SEEN, COULD BE NEATENED IF ONE DESIRED TO KEEP IT. THE BROWN SILK BRAID SOUTACHE DETAILING ON THE BELTING OF BOTH PIECES IS OF THE EDWARDIAN ERA AND DOES NOT REALLY MATCH. THE SKIRT WAS OPENED IN THE CENTER FRONT TO ADD THE VELVET PANEL AND A MORE MODERN GOLD LAME FABRIC FROM THE 1940’S WAS ADDED TO THE BACK TO STRENGTHEN. I PERSONALLY WOULD REMOVE IT ALL AS THE FABRIC SHOWS BREAKAGE AND MISSING BEADS. THE SKIRT WAS ORIGINALLY LINED FULLY IN SILK WITH ONLY TRACES REMAINING AND THE SILK LINING THE INNER HEM HAS HEAVY BREAKAGE. THIS WOULD BE A WONDERFUL PIECE TO RESTORE TO ITS FORMER GLORY. THE SILK JACQUARD IS STRONG AND WEARABLE AND SHOWS NO SIGNS OF WEAR OR FLAWS.
