Vintage Excellent DOBBS 1950s Beaver FOURTY SilverBelly 7-1/8 & Box?

Description: This OUTSTANDING Vintage DOBBS - 1950s - Open Crown (we will custom shape this, read below) - Beaver Forty (40) - SilverBelly - with a Nice Very Wide 3.3 inch wide brim. This is the First Dobbs West that we have ever seen manufactured out of a Beaver Forty! Since this is a true vintage Beaver Forty it’s as soft as silk to the touch and it can easily be hand-bashed into many styles with just a touch of the finger. There is NO comparison to any of the newer hats that are sold today! The newer higher quality (like the Stetson 30X Beaver) are very stiff and not really pliable at all! There is just NO way to compare this to anything new! If you look at the leather sweatband you will see there is very very minor wear on it! It appears to have Never been worn but we know that it was worn at least a handful of times and then stored away. See pictures, no wear anywhere, not even the reed where hats show wear always after it’s been worn. The reed is the part of the leather sweatband that attaches to the beaver. This was bought at the World Famous LUSKEY’S in Texas. This was one of the Best Western Hat Stores around in Texas! And Texans are known for their outstanding hats! NO HAT BOX CURRENTLY! That Dobbs hat box ended up being to small for the hat to fit in. The Beaver is extremely soft and pliable. It can easily be “hand-bashed” into any shape in seconds. Those first few pictures shows how easily it is hand bashed. So all these shapes were all hand-bashed: Telescope, Cowboy Fedora, Regular Fedora, Gus or Tom Mix and nearly any shape will hold this shapes if you’d like that done please write to us. Steaming a fixed shape into the hat would be the best way to keep the shape you want in the hat, so just write to ask to have it steam shaped. We took a video but for some unknown reason it’s not attaching to the ad. But we believe that most everyone knows these older vintage Beaver Forty Dobbs are and how easily hand bashing is. As my grandson was handling the hat and hand bashing different shapes, he started a Gus/ Tom Mix shape that looked outstanding because of that tall 6 inch crown. See pictures. The Gus shape would be best if steamed into the beaver. It could be just the center dented into a Gus or adding the pinches crown style would make it a great Tom Mix cowboy hat. It’s all up to the new owner. Also the brim in the pictures are not showing it as a flat brim. It is being steam flattened out again. But if you’d like the brim shaped into a shovel style type brim please write to us. The shovel style brim Dad steams into the hat is more of the older 1960s style, without the sharp edges on the inside curl. I hope I’m explaining that well? More of a softer curl. Whatever shape we steam in will be done after the purchase and we will send you pictures for your approval before shipping. You must write to us though after buying the hat. This was steamed into an Open Crown shape ( after taking pictures we could see a faint bit of the original shape still in the front so Dad will steam it again, we will update the picture when it’s done, write to us) and you may write to us and ask it to be custom shaped into an Open Road style or Stratoliner Fedora style. Dad can steam a Telescope crown on this too, just write to ask. Dad and grandson will custom steam shape it for you. We will send pictures for your approval when completed before shipping. Size states 7 but this actually measures to a perfect 7-1/8, so many times these older true vintage hats measure larger than tagged. Back then there was NO hat sizing standardization, that came in the 1970s when the Tilley Hat Sizing Chart was developed. We filled the picture gallery so you can see every detail, we hid NOTHING. The color is SilverBelly, the older vintage SilverBelly. The picture number 8, looking at the back of the hat is the best representation of the actual color. Note: the Oval Dobbs hat box is NOT available, we realized afterwards that it’s way to small to fit this wide brim hat!We are looking for another appropriate hat box for this great hat and will update the listing when we find one. This was one of their highest quality hat manufactured at that time. This is extremely soft and pliable and can easily steamed into any shape or style you desire or left as an open crown and the new owner can then Hand-Bash it themselves. Ok now the particulars There is a tag stating size “7” tag but this measures to a 7-1/8 at 22-3/8 inches. The leather sweatband is in such pristine condition that stretching this to a size 7-1/4 is possible. It just takes patience and time and much care. Many of Dads buyers and collectors are using that $15 Amazon Hat Stretcher and getting excellent results. It can take from days to weeks to stretch a hat. Slow tiny turns of the hat stretcher and leaving it there long enough to get the leather sweatband’s stretch to stay in the leather’s memory so it won’t shrink back. My grandson says there are videos online with instructions. And like always we measure each hat 3 times using different methods to verify the actual size!
