Description: Today I am offering this fabulous vintage Takahashi Cat Trinket Box. It was made in Japan and sold at the Takahashi San Francisco location. My best guess is that it is circa 1980s. It is a glazed pottery trinket dish and lid. It depicts a rather grumpy looking plump cat. The glaze is gray with cobalt blue swirl accents. Sections of the piece are unglazed (such as his tail) which creates additional interest and textures to the piece. The interior is speckled gray glaze. It's figurally round and in two parts. That includes the bottom dish, and top domed lid. When put together they create the whole curled up cat. It measures approximately 3" across from side to side, 3" from front to back, and about 2" high. It is in excellent vintage pre-owned condition with no damage whatsoever. It still has the original Takahashi San Francisco gold foil label on the underside that is partially torn. It has tape over it to make sure it is not lost to time. Please review all the pictures and zoom in for close-ups as they are an integral part of the description. USPS shipping cost is for the lower 48 US states only. Alaska, Hawaii, etc. must request a shipping quote prior to purchase. eBay determines international shipping costs. Here's some additional information about this product: During World War II (c. 1945), Henri Takahashi (19152002) and Tomoye "Tami" Takahashi (ne Nozawa; 19152016) were forced into an internment camp at the Topaz War Relocation Center. While incarcerated they imagined creating an import home goods store. After the war in 1945, the Takahashi Trading Company opened on 16611663 Post Street in San Francisco's Japantown. Takahashi Trading Company is a former Japanese-import home goods retail and wholesale business in the United States, and is the name of a 1912 warehouse building that once housed the business headquarters in the Potrero Hill neighborhood in San Francisco, California, U.S. The business was active from 1945 until 2019, and had various retail locations nationwide. It was founded by the JapaneseAmerican couple, Henri Takahashi and Tomoye "Tami" Takahashi.
