Description: If Alice were Alizia, and Wonderland was Mexico…. This truly magical set combines Tlaquepaque, fantasy , and Art Deco influences into a stunning assemblage that blurs the line between tabletop design and art. In amazing shape, the six-piece set consists of a regal, 14” platter embellished with a large floral vignette consisting of a very suggestive anthurium, a sunflower ( Girasole) ) and maybe a Shasta Daisy. Miraculously, the piece has survived with only a few minor chips on the bottom ring, and two scrapes, also on the underside. ( pictured). The imposing, majestic ( 8 1/2”) tea or coffeepot is also remarkably well preserved , with a minuscule bit of flaking on the spout being the only issue I see. The creamer is in awesome condition, as is the sugar bowl , which does have some slight roughness on the rim of the lid and a small scrape on the bottom. The entire set is incised with the word “ Mexico” all in caps. I have seen these pieces ascribed to Arias, but they are unmarked and pretty darn special, whoever crafted them. One seller’s set had a receipt from 1949, so I am guessing 1940s- 50s. The blue ground has a brushy, possibly sponged on, quality , which gives it an airiness that contrasts well with the chunky solidity of the flowers. This is a spectacular, unusual set that will display beautifully. It will make a lucky collector extremely happy.
