Their growth will depend upon the size of the pot. In warmer zones, figs can be planted in ground and grow into larger trees, bearing even more fruit. To bear fruit, figs need plenty of light, water, and fertilizer. We recommend up-potting these plants to a 3 or 5 gallon pot after you get them to allow the roots to grow even further. All of these are well-rooted. Fig trees grow best outdoors in USDA hardiness zones 7 or 8-12. In cases of harsh winter conditions even within these zones, figs can experience die back...even to the ground. But often if figs are well mulched, even if they die back to the ground they often can come back up in the spring and even bear fruit later in the summer or fall of the same year. It is best to heavily mulch figs in regions that have a danger of lower freezing temperatures. The best thing is to do your own research if you think you may be in a colder region. Even if you are in a warmer region, it is good to study the nutrient, water, and light requirements of figs to maximize your harvests.
