Nearly all the species produce brightly colored, unusually shaped spikes of small flowers surrounded by a type of colored leaf tissue called a bract. White Candles is a very nice cultivar that grows a bit taller than most, and great choice for brightening up shaded areas. It is a fast growing plant, that reaches a mature height of about 3 feet fairly quickly, and so is a good choice for background and boundary plantings in light to moderately shaded areas. The bloom spikes are bright pure white and begin to appear in the mid to late summer and last until the night time temps begin to cool down.
