Wilson (21 July 1905 – 1972) was an important Scottish stained glass artist, printmaker, oil, and watercolour painter. He was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy. He was appointed an OBE. W Wilson was active/lived in the United Kingdom, and Scotland, and he is best known for his stained glass and for his landscape paintings. The University of St Andrews describes Wilson as "one of Scotland's great artists, a master of the arts of printmaking, painting and stained glass". The Scottish artist William Wilson produced stained-glass windows, watercolours and prints. He left school early and worked as a map-maker before joining the stained-glass studio of James Ballantine and Son in 1920. Wilson was able to attend evening classes at Edinburgh College of Art, where he began making prints. His skill as a draughtsman and his celebration of the everyday that one sees in his prints, can also be found in his stained-glass windows. During his career he produced over 300 windows, for churches, cathedrals and secular buildings all over Scotland. Bourne Fine Art note that "in all he did, his style was very distinctive". Some of Wilson's works are in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland. His "Scottish Fishermen" oil painting is in the Aberdeen Art Gallery.
