Some Book Reviews:5/5 stars - A valuable addition to my Isaiah book collectionThe Book of Isaiah is a challenge to understand. This statement is based on nearly 25 years of reading it, plus many scholarly commentaries on the subject. I see such resources as crutches to get us by until we have the personal skills required to understand Isaiah on our own. Realize that some crutches fit better than others, and some are made of rubber. This book was a good fit for me. Not only is it a concentrated review of ideas the author has published for about 30 years, it is a detailed elaboration of those ideas in a well-organized manner, providing a clearer perspective on some complicated issues. The subject of one such issue is that of the latter-day servant (pp 110-122). Gileadi’s basic assumption is that Isaiah’s vision is primarily to be interpreted as pertaining to apocalyptic times that Isaiah typified using events and characters from Israel’s history. Gileadi extensively uses biblical passages to differentiate between messianic verses that pertain to the Lord, those that pertain to the servant, and explains how ambiguous verses could pertain to both. I recommend this book to Isaiahophiles at any level of understanding.--Robert N. However, I found the presentation of the material informative as usual. Several times I had "Aha" moments because some ideas and concepts opened to me. After reading many of Avraham's books and then reading this one I feel this would be a good book to start your studies of Isaiah.
