SA Obertruppführer INFO: Obertruppführer ("senior troop leader") was a paramilitary rank of the Nazi Party that was used between 1932 and 1945. Closely associated with the Sturmabteilung (SA), it was also an early rank in the Schutzstaffel (SS) during its formative years.Translated as “Senior Troop Leader”, Obertruppführer originated from the rank of Truppführer, a title used by Stormtrooper Companies (Shock Troops) during the First World War. The rank of Obertruppführer was created in 1932 to accommodate the SA's expansion and growing membership. In the SS, the rank was used between 1932 and 1934. SS-Obertruppführers carried out similar duties to their SA counterparts and the rank was also used in the early days of the SS-Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT).The rank of Obertruppführer was abolished in the SS after the Night of the Long Knives in 1934, when it was renamed SS-Hauptscharführer. However, it survived as a rank in the SA until the fall of Nazi Germany in 1945. The insignia for Obertruppführer consisted of two button pips and a silver stripe centered on a collar patch.BROWN UNIFORM INCEPTION: From 1923 to 1925, the SA did not officially exist because Hitler had been imprisoned for his role in the Munich Putsch and the Nazi Party was banned in Germany. However, underground cells of SA men continued to meet in secret, including one led by an SA leader named Gerhard Roßbach. Roßbach effectively invented the "Nazi brownshirt" uniform. During his Austrian exile in 1924, a large store of military surplus brown denim shirts, originally bought in 1921 for tropical uniforms in East Africa, was taken over by the Schill Youth in Germany. The "Schill Sportversand" then became the main supplier of the SA brown shirts. In 1925, the SA was re-founded as part of the new Nazi Party that Hitler assembled following his release from prison. The reborn SA received its first formal uniform regulations and began using the first recognizable system of rank insignia.Along with a brown shirt uniform, SA members wore swastika armbands and a kepi cap. Initially, the SA used its pre-1923 rank titles, but this changed in 1926 when local SA units were grouped into larger regiment-sized formations known as Standarten.SA GRUPPE NORDMARK SHORT INFO:Emerald Green Collar Tabs signify membership to SA GRUPPE Saschen, Nordmark.SA-Gruppe Nordmark was a regional division of the Sturmabteilung (SA), the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party. The SA-Gruppe Nordmark was one of the many regional groups that the SA organized throughout Germany to manage its activities and coordinate operations. Each SA-Gruppe was responsible for a specific geographic area and reported to the SA's national leadership. The Nordmark division, like other SA-Gruppen, was involved in various activities, including rallies, parades, and street fighting against political opponents.SA SHORT HISTORY:The Sturmabteilung (SA), meaning "Storm Division" or "Storm Troopers" in German, was the original paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party, playing a crucial role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and early 1930s. The SA's primary functions included providing protection for Nazi rallies and assemblies, disrupting the meetings of opposing parties, engaging in street battles with the paramilitary units of rival parties (particularly the Roter Frontkämpferbund of the Communist Party of Germany and the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold of the Social Democratic Party of Germany), and intimidating various groups, especially Jews, Romani people, and trade unionists.Known as Brownshirts (Braunhemden) due to their uniform's shirt color, the SA's official attire consisted of a brown shirt with a brown tie. The brown color originated from a large shipment of Lettow-shirts, initially intended for German colonial troops in East Africa. Gerhard Roßbach purchased these shirts in 1921 for his Freikorps paramilitary unit. They were later used by his Schill Youth organization in Salzburg and adopted by the Schill Youth in Germany in 1924. "Schill Sportversand" became the main supplier of the SA's brown shirts. The SA developed military-like ranks and titles, which were later adopted by other Nazi Party groups. After Adolf Hitler became the leader of the Nazi Party in 1921, he formalized the party's militant supporters into the SA to protect party gatherings. In 1923, due to his growing distrust of the SA, Hitler created a bodyguard unit, which was dissolved after the failed Beer Hall Putsch later that year. Following his release from prison, Hitler established another bodyguard unit in 1925, which eventually became the Schutzstaffel (SS). During the Night of the Long Knives in 1934, SA leader Ernst Röhm was arrested and executed. Although the SA continued to exist, it lost almost all its influence and was effectively replaced by the SS, which participated in the purge. The SA remained in existence until Nazi Germany's final surrender to the Allies in 1945, after which it was disbanded and outlawed by the Allied Control Council.
