Description: This fine boxwood parallel was made by Aston and Hander of London for the British Air Ministry for use by air navigators for the Royal Air Force. It was probably used by the RAF's Bomber Command for raids over Germany. It is marked by the Air Ministry (AM) and dated 1942. It is also signed by Aston and Hander and labeled CAPT. FIELD'S IMPROVED PARALLEL. The set is 18" long and has one edges marked out in degrees and the other edge with the cardinal points of the compass. The color of the boxwood has deepened where has been exposed to sun for 8 years and is lighter under the pivoting hinges. This piece is a great souvenir of the heroic days of Britain's Royal Air Force. Stock number SA2C-45
